The International Association for Structural Geology and Tectonics (IASGT) was founded in 2022 from IUGS-TecTask, the Tectonics and Structural Geology Commission of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).
The main aim of IASGT is to stimulate communication and coordination within the global community and to provide free-to-access resources and information to the public. The group encourages innovative research, industry-academia collaboration, continued education in structural geology and tectonics, leading to the growth of intellectual capital and hence the impact of our science on the wealth of the society. A key ambition of IASGT is to connect scientists, professionals and students from developing economies with the global science network, to share cutting edge research and development, and state-of-the-art training. Dialogue and cooperation is encouraged with non-academic organisations, industries and governmental bodies regarding applications of structural geology and tectonics to sustainable use of the world’s natural resources, the preservation of the environment, and prevention of natural hazards.
